OPENING HOURS FOR 2026


Oakfield Historical Society opens its doors to the public once per month April through December each year. Please visit us and the Susan Sanford Research Center during one of dates listed. We welcome your requests for private or group tours as well. Please contact us at least a month in advance to arrange.

THE ERIE CANAL

ELI FISH: GENESEE COUNTY'S FIRST BREWER

Retired high school history teacher Greg Kinal will present an informative and interesting program on the canal's history and impact on WNY and the young United States.  


Tuesday, May 5 at 7PM at Oakfield Government and Community Center, 3219 Drake St, Oakfield, NY. Use side entrance.

From Barrels to Batavia: The Story of Eli Fish, Genesee County's First Brewer


Presented by Ryan Duffy of the Holland Land Office Museum.


Long before craft beer was cool, one man was laying the groundwork right here in Genesee County. 


Join us as we explore the fascinating story of Eli Fish, Batavia's first brewer and a true local pioneer. Learn how his early brewing legacy helped shape the area, and how his name lives on today through the Eli Fish Brewing Company. This engaging presentation by Ryan Duffy is perfect for history lovers, local lore enthusiasts, and anyone who enjoys a good story behind a good brew.
