In Search of the Bone Fort explains all about the Native peoples who lived in this area. It further lays out the mysteries of the “Bone Fort” -a mountain of human bones-that was reported by Rev. Samuel Kirkland when he was here in the 1700’s on a mission trip. Samuel Kirkland was a Presbyterian minister and missionary among the Oneida and Tuscarora peoples of present-day central New York State. He was a long-time friend of the Oneida chief Skenandoa. Kirkland graduated from Princeton in 1765.
