Museum Open Dates

Saturday, December 7, 2024 

11am-2pm for Christmas in the Village

 

See our fresh new displays including "Homes and the People Who Lived There". Peruse the updated permanent exhibits including US Gypsum Company, Native Peoples, and two rooms with artifacts of wars America fought in. You can also purchase one of our 16 publications on Oakfield, NY history. TOURS AVAILABLE FOR FAMILIES, CLASSES, AND OTHER GROUPS UPON REQUEST.

Vietnam Veterans Tribute Project

**UPDATE**


Thank you for helping us reach our goals! Every donation helped immensely. The memorial bench is now installed in Triangle Park. Special shout out to Justin Smith from H.E. Turner & Co, Bohm-Calarco-Smith, Burdett & Sanford Funeral Homes who was instrumental in making this a reality.


Dedication of this bench was on Labor Day (Monday, September 2) immediately following the parade. Thank you to our veterans and Steve Hawley for joining our ceremony.



Haunted History Unveiled

Have you ever wondered if our museum holds secrets beyond the exhibits? Prepare for an evening of mysterious revelations and spine-tingling discoveries. Join the Oakfield Historical Society as we host the renowned Jamestown Paranormal Investigators. Discover the eerie findings and hear firsthand accounts from their overnight investigation of our museum.
 

**Location:** Town of Oakfield Government and Community Center, 3219 Drake Street (Side Entrance). Cost:Free. Tuesday, 8/6/2024
 

History Comes Alive Part VI - September 28, 2024 (7 & 7:30pm)

**UPDATE**

We were thrilled to welcome 60 people to our tour. Thanks to all of our actors and special thanks to Caryville Inn!


Oakfield Historical Society's tour "History Comes Alive Part 6" will be at the Cary Cemetery on Maple Avenue, Oakfield, NY on September 21. The first tour will begin at 7:00 and the second tour at 7:30pm.


Contact Laurie Nanni at 585-259-4145 to sign up for the tour. Cost is $10 per person.

Echoes of the Ancients Tour: Visit Site Where Native American Fort Once Existed

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Native American Fort program is postponed until October 2025. Thank you for understanding.

Cary Cemetery Cleanup - May 18, 2024 (8:30-12pm)

**Thanks to all who helped!**


In preparation for Memorial Day, please join Oakfield Historical Society and the Town of Oakfield as we honor those who came before us by sprucing up their final resting place. 


Open to individuals, families, groups, classes, community service - all are welcome to help. Refreshments will be provided by Oakfield-Alabama Lions Club. Cary Cemetery is located on Maple Avenue in the Village of Oakfield, NY.


Interesting fact: 

Borden Wilcox, who served in the American War of Independence, is buried in Oakfield. We are proud of to honor this true patriot. 

Local Lore & Libations: A Historical Tour - June 15, 2024 (4:30pm)

Great fun was had by all!


Stroll through the streets of Oakfield as your guides tell true tales of this little village’s rich and sometimes sordid past. Admission is $10 per person. Check in at Oakfield Historical Society, 7 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, NY.

WHAT AN AMAZING TURNOUT! This may have been our biggest opening day ever. Thank you to all who came to see displays, buy a book, & brought a friend or family. If you were unable to attend or want to come back to see more, this year's open dates are below.
